Events & Festivals in Dubai

Dubai Fashion Week

This festival of fashion gives an opportunity to regional fashion designers to present their collections to the world’s fashion media, together with the public. Designers whose work has been modelled on the catwalk include Walid Atallah and Aiisha Ramadan. Held at the glamorous Emirates Towers in the Godolphin Ballroom, this is one of the glitziest events on the Dubai social calendar, but is by invitation only.

Dubai Desert Classic

Tiger Woods won the tournament in 2008 to the joy of many of Dubai’s residents. Being a popular expatriate sport, the turn out each year does not disappoint.

Dubai Bike Week

An annual festival celebrating motorcycles is now held in Festival City, where all kinds of biking-related activities take place such as stunt shows, motorbike displays and test rides. Promising to be bigger and better than previous events, Harley-Davidson will be organising it in conjunction with Festival City, so it’s a good chance to get up close to some magnificent machines, and the characters who ride them. It’s an interactive festival, and ideal entertainment for families.

X Games Dubai

Competitions involving adrenaline-fuelled BMX freestyle (including street and vert categories), skateboarding and moto x (where the best trick is the winner), all attract competitors from all around the world, and are available to watch for free in Festival City.

Terry Fox Run

Each year, thousands of individuals run, jog, walk, cycle, and roller-blade their way around an 8.5km course for charity. The proceeds go to cancer research programmes at approved institutions around the world. Check the local media for contact details nearer the time.

Dubai Tennis Championships

The $1,000,000 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Open is a popular and well-supported event. It is firmly established on the international tennis circuit and offers the chance for fans to see top seeds, both male and female, in an intimate setting. The Williams sisters, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova have all graced Dubai’s courts in past tournaments.

Dubai International Jazz Festival

If you are looking for a night of chilled moods, then this is the place to be. Established as an annual event over the last few years, this nine-day festival attracts a strong line-up of top artists from all around the world, and grows in popularity each year. It features performances from internationally recognised artists.
